| If you bend your
neck or twist it to one side for many hours, it will probably hurt. |
Keep your neck in a relaxed, upright position, as if you were walking down the street.
Bending the neck forwards, backwards, or sideways for long periods of time may cause neck
and shoulder pain. The Atlas Ergonomic Book & Copy Holder can alleviate these problems
by keeping books and documents at an ideal height. |
. . . ergonomics [is] a kind of eternal triangle, among
efficiency, comfort and health.
P. van Wely (1970) |

Look straight ahead. Arrange your work space so the task that you look at most during
the day is straight ahead of you, whether it's your computer or documents on the Atlas
Book & Copy Holder. |
|
If you use a computer, position the monitor at approximately arm's length and at a height
that doesn't require you to bend your neck up or down. |
|
It would help [sedentary workers, learned men, and those who do fine work] very much if
besides wearing spectacles they would give up the habit of keeping the head constantly
bent and the eyes fixed on what they are making; if they would now and again drop their
work and turn their eyes elsewhere or snatch a respite from their task and rest the eyes
by looking at a number of different things...
Bernardino Ramazzini, approximately 300 years ago

Keep the document holder the same distance from your eyes as the computer monitor, if
possible. This prevents fatigue caused by repeatedly refocusing your eyes. However, if
the print on your documents is so small that you can not see it from that distance, bring
the Atlas Copy Holder closer to you, rather than bending your neck or straining forward to
see the document. |
Keeping these principles in mind, adjust the shelf on the copy
holder to whatever height is necessary to avoid bending your
neck.
If you are tall, it may be necessary to purchase
a booster box to raise the copy holder. Shelf height will also vary depending on the size
of the document with which you are working. |
